Are Scissor Victor mole jaw traps illegal in Washington state?
My friend in Washington, he wants to work doing Mole Removal service for our community using scissor jaw traps that are similarly to mouse traps when the tab is lifted when the mole runs through it. But my other friend wants to do the same thing in Tennessee. I wasnt sure if they were legal only in Washington or Tennessee, or just Nationwide. Can anyone assist me based on if mole traps are illegal? Thanks.
Both scissors and spear traps are illegal in Washington State.
As far as I can tell, the only legal way to trap a mole in Washington is to use a back-hoe and dig up the yard.
The wholly ineffective sticky-traps are the only legal route to trapping moles. I can’t find anything that differentiates the mouse-trap style head-trap (that doesn’t work) from the scissors style. Maybe you could try live trapping. I’m also remembering one of the old-timer techniques is death by drowning – you bury jars of water under the mole runs and they fall in. But anybody who has trapped moles knows that spear and scissors traps are the only kinds that work. You maybe able to get a waiver from RCW 77.15.192 for a commercial business that exists for mole removal. But you’ll need to run that flag through the state’s Attorney’s General office first.
